Eero Laine

Eero Laine is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and the Director of Graduate Theatre (MA and PhD). Eero is currently completing his book Professional Wrestling and the Commercial Stage, which investigates the global circulation and economies of commercial performance through the popular performance form of professional wrestling. His scholarship has been published in Theatre Journal, Research in Drama Education, Performance Research, TDR: The Drama Review, GPS: Global Performance Studies, and The Popular Culture Studies Journal, among other journals and edited collections. He is one of the co-editors of Performance and Professional Wrestling (2017) and is currently co-editing Professional Wrestling: Politics and Populism. He is one of the co-editors of Lateral (, the journal of the Cultural Studies Association, and he serves as Secretary of Performance Studies international. Eero teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in performance history and theory and while at UB has directed Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal, Anne Washburn’s 10 Out of 12, and Jaclyn Backhaus’ Men on Boats.
