Elyssa E. Bourke
Elyssa Bourke graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in dance in 2001 with an honor’s thesis in alternative therapies for dancers. After graduation she became a scholarship student at the Merce Cunningham studio. While living in New York she danced with Anita Cheng Dance and performed at the Joyce Soho, 92nd Street Y, the Cunningham Studio and was sponsored by Dance Theater Workshop at Saint Marks Church. While in New York she also performed with Jeffery Bauer,Tysan Dance, Richard Decker and Elke Rindfleisch. She has collaborated with Jennifer Morley, and their work has been presented at Dance Space Center, Peridance Center, and in Hartford Connecticut. While living in New York she also worked as a personal trainer and received her 200 level yoga certification from OM Yoga.
She moved to Buffalo in 2005 to attend chiropractic school at D’Youville College. She has worked with Buffalo Contemporary Dance and Nimbus Dance. She was a founding participant in The Habit Dance Project where she choreographed for performances in traditional performance venues as well as site specific and public performance venues. Most recently her choreography was presented at the Alt Theater as part of the Mission Improvable fund raiser.
Elyssa has been growing her professional practice with Bourke Chiropractic since 2009. She teaches yoga at East Meets West Yoga where she leads the anatomy component of teacher training, and as part of Universal Design Yoga, which is yoga designed for anyone regardless of any form of disability. She has been happily working with Anne Burnidge Dance since 2011.
