Gerald Finnegan

Gerald Finnegan received his MFA from the American Conservatory Theater in 1981. He has acted professionally in numerous theaters, in New York and regionally, as well as here in Buffalo, among them the New York Shakespeare Festival and the Brooklyn Academy of Music ; in Western New York: Studio Arena Theatre, the Irish Classical Theatre, the Kavinoky Theatre and Shakespeare in the Park. He also directs both in the Western New York Area, for the University at Buffalo, and internationally. He recently performed KRAPP’S LAST TAPE at the Assembly Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland, for the Edinburgh Theater Festival, Fringe and directed a Polish language production of Our Town for Panstowa Wyzsza Szkola Teatralna, the National Drama Centre, in Wroclaw, Poland. He was seen in the Irish Classical Theater’s productions of CRIPPLE OF INISHMAN and NIGHTMAZE.

Professor Finnegan’s work was also seen at the Sundance Film Festival in “The Puffy Chair” which went on to other honors/awards and national release.

In 2006, he played Paddy in Eugene O’Neil’s HAIRY APE Off-Broadway.  The award-winning production was filmed by Lincoln Center for the permanent collection of the Library of the Performing Arts.  He was given the honor of a “Drama League Nomination, Distinguished Performance Award for 2007”.  The Drama League Awards celebrate the outstanding performers of each theater-season in New York and are the focus of that year’s award-ceremonies.  (One of them is also given the distinguished-performance-of-the-year award, an unusual distinction that can only be won once in a performer’s lifetime.  In 2007: Live Schreiber; previous winners: Sir John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, James Earl Jones, Julie Harris and others).
