Dance in Process—Process in Dance with Associate Professor Anne Burnidge, happening December 17 & 18
Anne Burnidge Dance, the UB GEM Community of Excellence, and the Department of Theatre & Dance will present a showcase of new and emerging works by Anne Burnidge, Laura Nasca, Elyssa Bourke and UB undergraduate dance majors on December 17th at 7pm and December 18th at 2pm in the Katharine Cornell Theatre, University at Buffalo, North Campus.
Each piece will demonstrate a different approach to dance creation and will represent a variety of works-in-progress. A post performance discussion will follow the Saturday night performance.
The centerpiece of the performances will be What We Leave Behind, a new work by Burnidge that investigates the human body as an ecosystem that plays host to a friendly, and sometimes not so friendly, world of microbes. The work explores themes of symbiosis, balance, mutation and resistance as metaphors for human interactions. This work will be further developed as the centerpiece of an installation performance and educational workshop at the Buffalo Museum of Science.
Members of the UB Zodiaque Dance Company will present a second work by Burnidge that is being developed in collaboration with costume designer Jennifer Dasher. Choreographers and dancers will discuss the variety of dance-making processes and answer questions in the post-performance discussion on Saturday.
