MFA in Dance Beginning in Fall 2017!

The Department of Theatre and Dance is excited to announce their new MFA in Dance. On campus auditions for our first incoming class will be March 1-2, 2017.

Our new three-year, 60 credit hour MFA degree is a practice-based, creative research oriented program designed for dance artists with diverse interests and backgrounds and is open to a range of experience levels including both recent BA/BFA graduates and returning professionals wishing to deeply engage with the dance-making process. Students will focus on choreographic creation and performance together with a comprehensive core curriculum of practice, theory and pedagogy courses that emphasize the holistic development of the artist-teacher-scholar. With close faculty mentorship and numerous opportunities to create and show work, students will cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary to become the next generation of innovative dance makers, leaders, teaching-artists and artist-scholars.

The MFA program is uniquely designed for students who are looking to integrate outside interests with their creative work and who wish to take advantage of the dynamic range of offerings across the University. Through a personalized sequence of study, together with their core courses, students will create a research path that fits their unique interests, culminating in a creative thesis project.
