December 1-3, 2017
Part of the 2017 – 18 Department of Theatre & Dance: Season of Innovation
The University at Buffalo Theatre & Dance Department will present Emerging Choreographers Showcase from December 1-3, 2017. Performance times are: Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 2:00pm. All performances will be held in the Katharine Cornell Theatre, 102 Fillmore-Ellicott Academic Complex, University at Buffalo North Campus. Tickets are $20 for General Admission, Students & Seniors are $10.
Emerging Choreographers Showcase is a dance concert of new works by advanced-level UB student choreographers. The showcase, directed by Associate Professor Melanie Aceto, features ten new works by choreographers Kaitlyn Arnold, Kathlenne Bark, Olivia Bergmann, Jessica Caraciolo, Alyssa Coleman, Bianca Dam, Taylor Heaphy, Sydney Hale, Rachel Latke, Jessica Levin, Olivia Lovsin, and Mariangela Perrella. The student lighting designer is Sarah Seitz.
These works are inspired by themes of both vulnerability and power. Pieces address the vulnerability in not knowing and gender dysphoria, and the power of water and the power of human partnerships. These new works capitalize on the unique layout of the Katharine Cornell Theatre and explore a variety of mediums including a tap piece and a dance for camera. The diversity of dance styles and use of space create an exciting performance that challenges conventional perspectives.
The UB Department of Theatre & Dance 2017-18 season takes inspiration from one of the five named UB 2020 themes, Innovation.
