Shane Thorn

PhD, Theatre & Performance

SHANE THORN (Phd Program) is a playwright, composer, director, singer, poet, performer, and theoretician with a driving interest in the innovative possibilities of music and musical concepts in theatre. His research interests include opera, international and historical forms of musical theatre, and intermedial and experimental approaches to theatre. Shane received his BA in Music Composition from Binghamton University and his MA in Theatre from CUNY Hunter College. Past projects include musical pieces involving theatrical elements, plays, musical theatre and performance-art pieces; music and performance for experimental film; audio-guided tours; sound design pieces; and research on the hugely imaginative but almost-forgotten opera The Mask of Orpheus. Current Projects include musical structuring procedures and layered patterns in Samuel Beckett’s Footfalls.
